Welcome to Rival Megagun, the competitive multiplayer PVP retro arcade bullet hell space shmup! (It’s possible we missed a few words there.)
For the next few months, we’ll be covering the six playable characters in Rival Megagun - their mechanics, their backstories, their motives and their secrets. We’ll learn all about them, and maybe we’ll learn a little about ourselves. Or maybe we won’t. Anything is possible.
Special Attack: Homing Missile
Mega Gunship: Phoenix Wing
To celebrate our inaugural character bio, we’ll be covering Gen. Adored by all, Gen is the sole beacon of truth and justice left in the entire galaxy and the beloved hero and main character of Rival Megagun. At least, that’s what he thinks.
Just like your typical shounen protagonist, Gen is a hotheaded teenager who wants to be the best. (He also has moderately spiky hair, of course.) Gen jumps at the chance to join Rival Megagun and destroy the invading alien species known as the Harvesters. But his motives are not to save Earth or stop the Harvesters from depleting Earth of resources. He just wants fame and money. Saving the planet is a lucrative business after all.
Gen’s ship, the STAR Blazir, is nimble and aggressive. Its fiery bullets have a slight spread to their attack radius, charging his Attack Power faster than some characters. When ready, Gen can unleash his Homing Missile special attack. This bombards the opponent’s screen with rocket-propelled mayhem, limiting their movement and catching oblivious heroes off-guard.
The main draw of Gen is his Mega Gunship - the Phoenix Wing. After Gen maxes out his Attack Power, he’ll transform into the imposing Phoenix Wing and bring his own version of heroism to the opponent’s battlefield. Along with rapid-fire bullets that cover the entire screen, Phoenix Wing uses the power of fire to coat the edges of his opponent’s screen and force them into the centre. When paired together, these two techniques make quick work of anyone who thinks they can take Gen on. Good luck killing the protagonist, chumps.
